9-Inch Barrel-Shaped Jug
FSG0416
Condition: BTEF
Price: $495.00
This fine old jug is most unusual as to both shape and design. While barrel-shaped jugs are occasionally found, we have never seen one jug with a spout and top like this one. The spout is wide and predominant; the top descends downward in a series of scallops toward the handle in a most unusual manner.
The design features large, clear octagons running on a bias. There are narrow vertical and horizontal columns of alternating 5-sided lozenges and radiants that separate the clear octagons from areas of cane. Additional diagonally-cut miters run through the areas of cane preventing them from being octagon-shaped. All in all, quite an unusual design. If you have seen the design before, please let us know.
The jug is 8 1/2-inches tall and has a maximum diameter of 6-inches. The blank is clear, water-white and weighs 4 3/4-lbs. It is completely wheel-finished and has a soft, silky feel. The 16-point fanned hobstar on the base is often seen on early J. Hoare products.
