Three-Handled Loving Cup w/Sterling Silver Rim

Condition: BTEF

Price: $1,995.00

Description:

This finely-crafted three-handled loving cup is a rare beauty!  The finely-detailed repousse silver is a delight to behold; the glass is deeply-cut and entirely wheel-polished giving the piece a great soft, silky feel.

The sterling rim is touchmarked with the symbol of Redlich & Co. of New York, NY followed by 'sterling 204.'  We have seen their repousse work before and it compares favorably with that of Gorham and Tiffany.  The quality of the blank, the cutting of the 24-point hobstar on the base, the clear, convex columns on the sides and the bars of notched miters all suggest the glass was produced by a major, ca. 1897 cutting house.  All in all, a beautifully-crafted piece of American Brilliant cut glass that has a great shape and will display very well in any collection.

The loving cup stands 6 5/8-inches tall and has a maximum diameter of 5 3/4-inches.  The blank is heavy (4 3/4 lbs.), clear and colorless; the triple-notched handles are perfectly attached.  The piece is in better than extremely fine condition and there is no internal residue or discoloration.  The silver has been professionally polished.

The loving cup was an award piece and is engraved  "St. Louis Expositiion First Annual Horse Show 1897 Awarded to H. Lee Watkins"   An excellent display piece for any collection.  Enjoy!
