RARE Stevens & Williams Amethyst Decanter

Description:

This extremely rare Stevens & Williams decanter is the finest example of this design we ever expect to offer.  Its rarity is due to the design, the amethyst color and the shape of the decanter.  The design is sometimes confused with the work Walter Graham (the Englishman) did for Dorflinger from 1897 to 1910.  Indeed, the design was at one time thought to be the work of Dorflinger.  A green-cut-to-clear pitcher in this design appears as the front piece in Mrs. Swan's book.

The decanter stands 9-inches tall and has a base diameter of 3 1/2-inches.  The pattern-matched stopper is original, fits perfectly and has a teardrop from the very top of the stopper down through the neck and into the peg of the stopper.

Except for slight wear marks on the bottom and one very small rough spot on the stopper, the piece is in mint condition and is free of any internal discoloration or residue.

Regardless of its origins, this is a remarkable design, color and shape whose appeal has withstood the test of time.  The decanter would not be leaving our collection except that we have a green-cut-to-clear, silver-adorned cologne in the same design.
