Description:

This finely-crafted ice tub features a cut-all-over design and an unusual sterling silver rim and handle.  The swinging handle attachment is somewhat unique and is shown on ice tubs of a different shape on page 91 of the second Hawkes catalog (an ACGA reprint).  While the design does not remind me of Hawkes' work, the quality of the blank and the cutting are definitely equal to or better than Hawkes' finest work.

The blank is clear and water-white; the cutting is precise, deep and has a beautiful, reflective polish.  The ice tub is 5 1/2-inches in diameter an stands 5 1/4-inches tall at the rim; the bottom has a 24-point hobstar.  The sterling is trademarked 'sterling' with the Mauser Mfg. Co. of New York, NY symbol followed by '925/1000--fine--3810.'  The Mauser symbol is shown on page 398 of Rainwater's Fourth Edition.  The sterling is without damage and has been professionally polished.
