Meriden Jug w/Wilcox Steling Top

Condition: BTEF
Price: $1,625.00
This stately champagne jug was cut by the Meriden Cut Glass Co. of Meriden, CT in a design that is shown on page 66 of their catalog (an ACGA reprint). The design, with its columns of notched miters between the sterling silver top and geometric cutting at the base, is very appropriate for the shape of the jug. The sterling, which is signed with the Wilcox/Meriden 'W-S-W' mark, is more ornate than their usual sterling.
This well-designed jug was expertly cut on a very fine Meriden blank that is clear and water-white. A fine example of the well-crafted work of one of the American Brilliant Period's best, but lesser know, glass manufacturing and cutting houses. It stands 13 1/2-inches tall at the spout, has a bottom diameter of 6-inches and weighs 6 1/2-lbs. The triple-notched handle is properly attached. Both the jug and the sterling silver are in better than extremely fine condition and the piece has no internal cloudiness, discoloration or residue.
