Rare Duckbill Decanter

FSG1854

Condition: BTEF

Price: $795.00

Description:

The unusual elongated pouring spout earns the name of 'duckbill decanter' for this piece. The shape is quite rare and very collectible. The decanter is very well-cut on a clear, white blank; the jauntily-placed handle is perfectly attached.

This exact piece is shown in a 12/1/1902 advertisement for the Shotton Cut Glass Works of Brooklyn, NY; the design name is not given, however. Little is known of Shotten Cut Glass Works other than in 1914 they claimed to be the largest cut glass factory in the world, making the largest variety of cut glass of any concern in either hemisphere. It is a nicely-crafted piece with an interesting design and unusual shape.

The decanter is 8 1/2-inches tall without the stopper and 11-inches tall with the stopper; the maximum diameter is 5 1/2-inches. There is no internal cloudiness or residue.
