RARE Libbey "Prism" Decanter
FSG2041
Condition: BTEF
Price: $875.00
Libbey's "Prism" design is shown on several shapes in their 1901-02 catalog (an ACGA reprint). It is another of Libbey's designs that was shown in quantity (as were "Aztec," "Lorraine," "Wedgemere," "Kensington") but are very seldom found by collectors today. Page 40 of Pearson's Encyclopedia of American Cut & Engraved Glass, Vol. III, shows a small compote in the same "Prism" design as is cut on this decanter. Pearson states: "William C. Anderson designed a pattern in 1897 which was later modified by Libbey into the pattern here illustrated." We are still searching for information on the 1897 Anderson design. Pearson rated "Prism" 3 for rarity (very rare) and 3 for quality/price range (one of the most desirable). We have seen fewer pieces of "Prism" than any of the above-named designs.
The cut-all-over design is very well-adapted to and cut on this pyramid-shaped, 12-oz. decanter which is signed Libbey-with-a-saber. An easy-to-look-at shape that stands over 13-inches tall and has a bottom diameter of 3 1/2-inches. Its perfectly-fit, original stopper is 5-inches long and has a grand shape that accentuates the double pouring spout. The decanter has no internal discoloration or residue.
A rare and desirable decanter from one of America's best cutting houses.
