Description:

W.C. Anderson, the legendary Libbey designer of American Brilliant cut glass, patented the "Imperial" design on June 4, 1895;  the design was assigned to the Libbey Glass Co. of Toledo, OH.  This 8-inch square by 2 3/4-inch tall low bowl is an ideal shape to properly display this incredible design.  Both the blank (Libbey's 'No.172') and the design are shown on page 8 of the Libbey 1896 catalog.

The design is expertly crafted on a very clear, water-white Libbey blank; the cutting is very deep and wheel-polished to a mirror-like perfection.  The central 8-point hobstar is most unique in design and is one of the finest we have viewed; the Libbey-with-a-saber trademark is on the inside bottom of the bowl.  Pearson rates Libbey's "Imperial" design 1 for rarity (rarest/highest category) and 2 for quality/price range (one of the most desirable).

A rare and delightful shape and design from the greatest designer and one of our finest cutting houses.
