Page 160 of Feller's Book on Dorflinger says it all! "Table setting of colorless glass, including a cranberry overlay hock wine, cut in the "Russian" pattern at T.G. Hawkes, Corning, NY on Dorflinger's best metal blanks. Until 1904, Hawkes purchased all its cutting blanks from C. Dorflinger & Sons and continued making occasional purchases until World War I -- Collection of the Corning Museum of Glass." It shows a set of wines and a fingerbowl with underplate. All the pieces are clear except this exact wine which is incorrectly called a hock wine.
This ruby-to-clear claret stands 4 1/2-inches tall and has a top diameter of 2 3/4-inches; the base has a 48-point radiant star with varied-length rays. The faceted knob under the bowl has an air trap that extends down through the six-sided, unnotched stem. The top and bottom rims are original.
