RARE Libbey 'No.373' Loving Cup
FSG2335
Condition: BTEF
Price: $2,950.00
One of the rarest shapes in American Brilliant cut glass is the 'No.373' footed, three-handled loving cup blank produced by the Libbey Glass Co. of Toledo, OH. It is also one of the largest footed loving cups produced -- it stands 9-inches tall, has a top diameter of 5 1/4-inches and weighs 4.75-lbs. Although the blank is shown in the 1896, 1901 and 1903 Libbey catalogs, only a very few have survived.
We can say with certainty that this loving cup is a Libbey 'No.373' blank. As the cutting design is not shown in any Libbey catalog currently available or other authoritative reference material, we cannot say that it was cut by Libbey. We know of no other information that proves other cutting houses purchased the blank from Libbey. A mystery for sure but it does not diminish the beauty and elegance of the piece.
The blank is typical Libbey -- clear and water-white. The triple-notched handles are perfectly attached and the base has a 24-point hobstar. A rare and elegant American Brilliant cut glass piece that deserves prominent display.
