Condition: BTEF

Price: $695.00

Description:

A.L. Blackmer Co. of New Bedford, MA cut this magnificent oval tray in their "Columbia" design.  Pearson rated the design 2 for rarity (very rare) and 2 for quality/price range (one of the most desirable).  "Columbia" is arguably one of Blackmer's most desirable and collectible designs.

This oval tray is shown on plate 35 of the 1906-07 Blackmer catalog (an ACGA reprint).  Blackmer is one of the Brilliant Period's lesser-known and underrated cutting houses.  Their blank selection -- as to shape and quality -- was excellent as was their cutting and polishing.  As shown in the 1906-07 catalog, many of their designs were elaborate and well-balanced.

This oval tray is 11 3/4-inches long, 7 3/4-inches wide and stands 2 1/2-inches tall at each end.  The cutting is precise, deep and polished to a mirror-like perfection which creates a fiery appearance.  A wonderful display piece that elicits many favorable comments.
