Description:

T.B. Clark & Co. of Honesdale, PA created this magnificent piece of American Brilliant cut glass; the exact piece is shown on page 5 of their 1908 catalog (an ACGA reprint).  The piece is cut in their "Burnside" design and is called a 'comport.'  Since the bowl is 9-inches in diameter and 3 3/4-inches deep, we prefer to use the contemporary vernacular -- footed bowl -- as opposed to comport;  the piece stands 8 3/4-inches tall.

The cut-all-over design is very deeply-cut and polished to a mirror-like brilliance on a clear, colorless blank; the top rim measures up to 5/8-inch thick.  The base has a 24-point hobstar and a saw-tooth edge.  The piece weighs a hefty 8 3/4-lbs.  This is a very well-proportioned, beautifully-crafted, footed bowl that has a bold presence.  It is a great display piece that makes a real statement.
