Description:

The very collectible "Roosevelt" design was one of the rarest designs cut by the Quaker City Cut Glass Co. of Philadelphia, PA.  One of the finer cutting firms of the American Brilliant Period, Quaker City is known and appreciated by collectors for the unusual shapes of their vases.  This flared-top, bulbous vase weighs 8 1/4-lbs., is 9 1/2-inches tall and 8-inches in diameter.  It is very well-cut on a very clear, heavy, water-white blank.  The "Roosevelt" design is difficult to photograph because its wheel-finished, extra-deep, wide miters reflect light more than normal cutting.  For this reason, we have copied page 50 of the ACGA Quaker City catalog for your viewing.

This classic vase was named Roosevelt Globe Center Vase in the catalog and was offered in a 6, 8, 10 and 12-inch size.  The 10-inch vase was offered for sale at $33.75, a very high price for the times (ca. 1909).  The price reflected the extraordinary and unsual blank and the sharply-curved, deep, bold cutting of the major miters.  An exceptional vase that displays to advantage.
