Description:

H.P. Sinclaire & Co. of Corning, NY produced some of the finest American Brilliant cut glass of the Brilliant era -- 1875 to 1915.  Sinclaire was best known for his realistic, engraved designs which quite often included geometric motifs.  Sinclaire's geometric designs are not as well known, however.  They generally have  straight-forward, well-balanced elegance that please the eye.  Without exception, they are cut on best-metal blanks and are very well-crafted.

This 7 1/4-inch by 1-inch tall plate -- signed Sinclaire -- is cut in an unknown design.  The cutting is precise, deep and completely wheel-polished; it has a fiery, mirror-like brilliance.  The blank is clear and without color.  The design features a chain of twelve hobstars on the outside edge and a deeply-cut, 2 1/2-inch diameter, 24-point hobstar in the center of the plate.  Thirty-six miter cuts -- polished as if to appear as tusks -- connect the central hobstar to the outside chain of hobstars.

The plate is well-designed, very well-crafted and has an artistically pleasing design.  A great example of Sinclaire's product.  It may be considered as rare.  Enjoy!
